Algeria approves first foreign military deployment since 1973 to protect Niger energy infrastructure

Algeria's parliament has approved the deployment of military troops to Niger, marking the country's first overseas military deployment since 1973. The troops will be stationed in northern Niger to protect energy facilities and respond to security threats from armed groups. The decision follows improved relations between Algeria and Niger and is connected to Algeria's economic interests in the region, including oil exploration and a planned gas pipeline.
